Robbing Peter to Touch Paul

So let’s talk about really, really Stupid Church People. At SCP we give a lot of grief to those pesky evangelicals (mainly since we used to be among them) but I was thinking about it the other day and I just have to be honest…

THE FREAKIN’ CATHOLICS ARE NUTS!!

One of the reasons I don’t talk about Catholicism a lot is because I personally do not have much experience with it. But the main reason is because I never have taken it seriously. In my opinion, I just considered it to be this side of a cult.

Anyway, it would be completely unfair for me to bag on the Benny Hinn’s of the world, the Paul Crouch’s, the mega-church movement and the Emergent Church… and then not mention the pure stupidity that is the Catholic Church.

Yes, this is me using an extremely large brush, but with good cause. Specifically here I am referring to the “Catholic priests abusing little kids” issue. This isn’t an isolated case of a few “Priests Gone Wild”, but this is a systemic issue that pervades the ideology, philosophy and theology of the entire group.

This is a group of people that knew about their priests fiddling around and effin’ with little children and then did absolutely nothing to stop it… for years. In short, the leaders of the church have condoned the practice. Pedophiles have hidden amongst the Catholic Church for centuries and each and every Pope has turned a blind eye. They have allowed it to proliferate and if there is a God, I expect that hell will welcome all of the Popes warmly.

Make no mistake… this has nothing whatsoever to do with the longstanding vow of “celibacy” that Catholic priests are forced to take. Some wrongly claim that this is obviously a case against homosexuality and it’s dangers. Pedophilia is not brought on because one abstains from sex or because one is attracted to those of the same gender. Pedophlia is a sexual dysfunction. It is the misuse of a powerful position for one’s own personal and sexual satisfaction.

The Catholic Church announced last week that they had reached a $660 million settlement with the abused children and their families. As was brought up by the “Daily Show”, it is interesting that about half of this money will come from the church who will be using the offerings of it’s people intended for ministry to pay for the sins of it’s Fathers. That is a travesty.

It was also pointed out that the other half of the money will come from insurance companies because the church was covered by… and get this… “sexual abuse insurance”!! Maybe I don’t know much, but is it common for organizations to take out sexual abuse insurance policies to cover the actions of their employees? Nonetheless, no amount of money can right the wrongs that have been doled out by the Catholic Church and it’s priests. I hope that more lawsuits are won, and more money is paid out until the point where there is no more Catholic Church, or pope, or cardinals or anything left resembling them.

Below is a clip from the “Daily Show” on the issue… it certainly provides perspective and levity (and truth) to something so serious. Also, credit to Samantha Bee from the Daily Show for giving me the title to this post… that line was pure genius.

Pedophilia is a horrifying, unnatural, but logical expression of trying to repress something so fundamental as sexual desire. Just more evidence that Religion can’t change anyone.Personally (my thoroughly unresearched opinion), I think that if priests were encouraged to marry and live like regular people, the pedophilia issue would diminish to virtually nil.

  2. Typical Comedy Central… half the time their viewer doesn’t work for shite. They ought to pay YouTube to run their junk for them.I’ll bet it’s a great clip, though.
